Lambda sensors constantly measure the concentration of oxygen in the exhaust gases and convert these into electronic signals - this is done in both gasoline and diesel engines. This information is transmitted to the engine control unit which adjusts the mixture formation in the combustion chamber according to the evaluated results. In this way, the vehicle’s emissions - such as nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons, and soot – are significantly reduced.
